Your aim or intention
Initially, you might want to think in terms of just getting your work out there in a simple paperback book format that you can give to friends or sell online. You could look on this first edition as a portfolio of your work. See how it goes, see what the interest is, see whether strangers are buying copies… Later on, with a bigger financial investment, you can opt for a more expensive hardback version, different paper quality, individual reproductions in different sizes…
Most artists are known by their name – but you may want to think about the effect this will have on you as an artist if you become known. Will it make you feel your private creative space has been invaded? (Take a look at the discussion in “Considerations for writers”)
SRP full-color paperback
- Paper finish: Glossy. Even if you plan to have only a few pages in color, the whole book is printed as a “full color” book with the same glossy paper throughout – and the same cost per page.
- Resolution of photo reproductions: They need to be 300 dpi. Keep in mind that the photo can be reduced in size but it cannot be increased. Click here for guidelines on photo quality.
- Trim size (the size of the book after trimming): Standard sizes and Custom sizes are available. Amazon will distribute any size book, but book sellers and online retailers may not be willing to distribute your book unless it is a Standard size.
Selling the book: retail price, royalty, distribution – see createspace.com or ask our CS Coordinator for a guided tour
Distribution You can set up your own website for this or we can help you do so, you can link to SRP and promote your work here at our website, and you can sell through amazon (North America and Europe). Depending on how much of a royalty you want and how much you invest in the production of the book, the retail price of the book can be kept quite reasonable – within the reach of your imagined audience.
